  • About David Vaughn

I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who believes mental health care should be individualized, collaborative, and practical. I take time to understand each patient’s symptoms, experiences, concerns, and goals so we can develop a treatment plan that fits their individual needs rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. I believe patients should be active participants in their care. I work with my patients to explore treatment options, discuss the potential benefits and risks of medications, and make decisions together. When possible, I prefer making thoughtful changes one step at a time so we can better understand what is helping and make adjustments based on each patient’s response. Patients can expect a supportive and straightforward environment where they can ask questions, voice concerns, and better understand their treatment. My goal is for patients to feel heard and involved in their care while we work together toward meaningful improvements in their symptoms, functioning, and overall quality of life.
  • More Information

Being a father is an important part of who I am and has helped shape the patience, perspective, and understanding I bring to my work. I’m naturally curious and enjoy getting to know people beyond a diagnosis or list of symptoms. I value genuine conversations and try to create an environment where people can be themselves, ask questions, and know they won’t be judged.

  • What do you hope clients take away from working with you?

I hope patients leave our visits feeling heard, understood, and more confident in the direction of their care. I want them to understand not only what we are doing, but why we are doing it, and to feel comfortable asking questions or expressing concerns along the way. Mental health treatment is a process, and my goal is to work alongside each person as we find what works best for them. Ultimately, I hope patients feel they have someone in their corner who genuinely cares about their progress and is invested in helping them improve their quality of life.
  • What do you love most about working with your clients?

  • What's your go-to form of self-care?

Spending time with my son is probably my biggest form of self-care. Whether we’re going on a hike, kicking a soccer ball around, or just spending time together, it gives me a chance to step away from work, recharge, and keep the things that matter most in perspective.
  • What drew you to the field of mental health?

I was drawn to mental health because I wanted to work in an area where I could really get to know my patients and have an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in their lives. Mental health affects nearly every aspect of a person’s life, yet people often struggle for a long time before seeking help. I enjoy being able to listen, understand what someone is experiencing, and work with them to find a treatment plan that can help them move forward.
  • What populations do you specialize in?

I primarily work with adults across a wide range of mental health concerns. While there are certain conditions I see frequently, I don’t want someone to feel they have to fit into a particular category before asking for help. If someone is struggling and their needs are within my scope of practice, I’m here to listen, understand what they’re going through, and help determine the best path forward.
  • What therapeutic modalities do you use?

My primary role is psychiatric evaluation and medication management, but I incorporate supportive therapy, psychoeducation, motivational interviewing, and elements of cognitive-behavioral approaches into my visits. I also believe strongly in collaborative decision-making and encourage psychotherapy when it can complement medication management.

  • What's a small thing that brings you joy?

Hearing my son laugh. No matter what kind of day I’ve had, that’s one of those little things that can immediately make the day better.
  • What's one thing you wish everyone knew about mental health?

Asking for help doesn’t mean you’ve failed or that something is wrong with you as a person. Mental health can change throughout life, and treatment isn’t always about finding one perfect medication or solution. Sometimes it takes time, adjustments, and working together to figure out what works best for you.

Excellent experience! David Vaughn is very friendly and very easy to talk to. I'm an awkward, anxious kind of person and he even made me feel at ease! Everyone was so nice at the office in general. I'm looking forward to working with them again!

I’ve only had my first visit with David Vaughn but he has truly been the best. He made me feel comfortable, seen, and heard. I was so nervous cause I typically only chose female providers just cause that’s what I’ve always been comfortable with, but I’m grateful I decided to give him a shot. He’s fantastic and I’m very blessed.
