  • About Amy Rollins Probst

I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) with decades of experience working in caring professions with people of all ages. Though social work is a second career for me, I have been committed to helping people find healing, live fully, and find meaning in their lives for as long as I can remember. My priority as a therapist is to walk alongside others through seasons of need, challenge, and change using trauma-informed psychotherapy to help them achieve their goals. I am a fierce advocate for the disenfranchised, the lonely, the hopeless, and those feeling helpless.
  • More Information

I am a widow, a mother of three young adults, a sister, a daughter, a friend, and a caregiver. Our household includes a large 3-year-old “baby” Golden Retriever, a senior hound, and three kitties—as well as the humans who are allowed to live with them.

  • What do you hope clients take away from working with you?

I hope clients know that I am willing to hold hope for them until they can experience it for themselves. I am committed to client-centered empowerment, advocacy, open communication, and meaning-making.
  • What do you love most about working with your clients?

  • What's your go-to form of self-care?

I love sitting on our back porch, looking over the beauty of East Tennessee, and drinking hot coffee. I enjoy watching movies, especially action/adventure and psychological thrillers. A favorite evening might find me at home with friends or family, playing board games or cards, or reading.
  • What drew you to the field of mental health?

I was taught from an early age to make a positive difference in the lives of others whenever possible. I carry empathy, compassion, and a calming presence and endeavor to share those qualities with others.
  • What populations do you specialize in?

I work with people of all ages, including children, adolescents, young adults, adults, and older adults. I also work with members of the LGBTQIA+ community; spiritual or religious seekers and those recovering from religious trauma; people experiencing crisis, addiction, recovery, grief, chronic illness, significant life transitions, and stress; caregivers; veterans and military dependents; and those living with persistent or severe mental illness.
  • What therapeutic modalities do you use?

I use a mixture of approaches and theories to best meet the needs of my clients. I often draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, and Existential Therapy for understanding and guidance. I am also growing in my understanding and therapeutic use of Internal Family Systems (IFS).

  • What's a small thing that brings you joy?

Seeing a client gain insight, hope, peace, or joy—or hearing them share how they successfully implemented something we discussed in session—always makes me smile.
  • What's one thing you wish everyone knew about mental health?

Mental health, like physical health, exists on a continuum. There are seasons when our emotional, spiritual, mental, social, or relational health can hinder us from living fully. Treatment for mental illness, like treatment for heart disease or diabetes, is important and appropriate. We don’t have to wait until we can no longer live with the pain before reaching out for support.

Amy Probst is the best counselor and mental health professional that I have encountered after many years of VA care. One can quickly tell that she does this work because it is her calling, not just a "job". I feel fortunate to have met her.

I cannot begin to explain how much Ms. Amy has helped me. She is the kindest, most compassionate person I have met. She genuinely listens when you speak, remembers what you tell her, ensures you feel comfortable speaking with her and carries the most calming, reassuring presence. She gives you actual tools you to implement and takes time to teach you how to appropriately use said tools. She truly makes you feel cared for and you can tell she is sincere and authentic. I don’t know what I would have done without her during this transition period in my life. I would recommend her to anyone. I can’t say enough for the care and guidance she provides. I’ll always be so thankful for her support and guidance.
